OmniScience“OmniScience” started as a scribble on some scrap paper at a part-time job. I seem to remember it being a pretty straight-forward asian-influenced third-eye kind of thing. From there, it evolved into this; the first in a planned series exploring the intersection of invention, technology, the organic, and the metaphysical. It’s also a nice fit for this week’s Illustration Friday. Read the rest of this entry »

A clear sign of the goodness of life is when each year brings more to be thankful for than the year before. 2006 came packed with some great projects, a move to Tokyo and a shiny, brand-new wife. Here’s hoping that your year was just as wonderful.

Turkey can be a bit pricey here in Tokyo. This shop sells a bird for about 60 bucks, US. Stilll, I promised my family that, for the sake of tradition, I would do my best to eat some sort of bird today. I’m thinking Yakitori (焼き鳥). Chicken on a stick is almost the same as a drumstick, right?

Have yourselves a great holiday!

Mt. Fuji at SunsetFuji-san is big. I grew up living on a mountain along the appalachian trail, so I thought I knew what made a mountain. But Fuji is in a whole other class. It is mind-numbingly, inconceivably huge.

Loki and the GoatI doubt PETA would have approved of Loki beard-wrestling a goat, but apparently it was all the rage in Valhalla. The lengths a guy will go to make a girl smile amaze me sometimes. Not even the Norse gods of old were exempt from making fools of themselves to try and get a date.

Of course, tying your beard to a goat’s doesn’t hold a candle to some of the stunts those guys on Mt. Olympus pulled. Transforming yourself into a swan or a big white bull (I’m looking at you, Zeus!) in order to get a girl is a step or two beyond desperate. And I shudder to think about the kind of girl who goes in for that kind of thing. These relationships never turn out well.

In any case, this is the fourth and final image from “Loki and the Apples of the Gods” (an Old Norse Tale Retold) by Christy Lenzi in the November issue of Cricket. Ony one of the many myths I’m chipping away at here. Enjoy!
