Here’s something I don’t do very often: a land skyscape. Or half of one, in any case. Click here or on the image to see the whole long, skinny piece.
In a twist on my usual process, I pretty much made this up as I went along, starting with just the basic idea and adding whatever felt right at the moment. I don’t know if it’s a process I’ll revisit often. I don’t like to plan my life out (don’t ask me what I’m doing next weekend, ‘cuz I’m sure I don’t know). My art though, that’s a whole different kettle of fish. I have strategy. I have plans of attack.
Which leaves me with that most wicked question: Is this done? I’ve got to admit, I like the clouds. But there’s a big part of me that wants to do more, maybe add a few members of my odd menagerie to the mix. Maybe stir in a concept or a theme. Got an opinion? I’d love to hear it!*
*artists’ disclaimer: …but in the end I’ll selfishly and megalomaniacally do whatever I want (unless you’re a client, of course). My wife will maim me over this someday.

I love that white cloud up at the top. ‘Course anything naturey gets me most of the time. It does seem like it needs something…what, I’m not sure. Lots of help I am… I figured out why I like that white one, it reminds me of the North Wind blowing in one of those oldie but goodie Christmas cartoons that air in December. I’m not sure which one it is, though. I did find some paper through Paper-Source but only one sheet is navy. Doggone that navy.

I love patterns..and yours are so lovely! the textures and mix os colours are really awesome.. I agree with you but I don’t think it needs more stuff in it..only a special touch of something..perhaps a little soft different pattern in the background.

Great piece, Patrick. I am torn – I like it as is, but I also understand the feeling that it needs a little something more.
…Perhaps a solitary bird flying off into the distance? Just a thought.I’m in the same place with one of my pieces, so I am feeling that same sense of uncertainty!
Best of luck!
