A Void Discovery

A Void Discovery cut-paper artThe tricky part about drawing “discovery” isn’t that I didn’t have any ideas. It’s that there are infinite possibilities. Physical, historical, emotional, internal, external, sexual, intellectual. Everything from that first peak out of the womb to that final, undiscovered country.

I must have done a half-dozen good concepts (let alone the bad ones which I will hide all evidence of later), but I kept running into the same wall. The sketches and compositions were good, but I had no idea what was being discovered. Or how to narrow the field down to one discovery. So, that’s what I drew.

It’s up to you to figure out what this lil’ guy just found. Maybe each hole leads to another world. Or to treasure. Heck, maybe his field of giant turnips has just gone missing. What possibilities do you see?

My first thought was that he was waiting for a groundhog to pop up so he could bop them on the head with his tail.
    Nice textures and great pose.

This was a hard one…sometimes one has too much range…but I have to say…your ninja in your header to the head lop is hilarious and great!

I totally thought of those pop up games too, maybe he needs a mallet. Like the perspective of looking over his shoulder and I love your header, very cool.

I really like this one. It’s very open to intpretation.

He’s looking out at all the different opportunites he has and each hole would bring him to a new discovery. They could be different portals to different world.

Or, he has to pick one and something will come out of the hole and he’ll discover what it is.

Or, his buddy dropped down a hole and he’s annoyed because he doesn’t know which one.

Or, he’s discovered the result of a meteor shower.

Man I can be here all day!
    Good work.

I think he discovered, to his great disappointment, that all the skee-ball lanes were occupied. Sigh, I guess it’s whack-a-mole again. Also love the ninjas, reminds me of samurai jack an awesome cartoon.
