cut and torn paper / wood 8 3/16″ x 4 1/8″
Every once in a while I like to do a piece that is wide open to interpretation. This may be one of those. I know that I had a specific concept in mind when I was sketching. However, I’m always curious to hear what other folks read into an image.
Designing all the curlicues for this quirky guy was quite a bit of fun. He actually started out simple. That didn’t last long. A while back I did an illustration project involving celtic knots. They made their way into the loops and twists of his neck. Not in any strict way, mind you, but more as inspiration. The over/under rule just plain looks good.
Design Festa finished up this past Sunday, and after spending about a day and a half in a zombie-like state, I’m back up to cutting and gluing. I actually remembered to take some pictures this time. If I don’t accidentally delete them from the camera (it’s happened before, my friends!) I should have them and a brief rundown posted soon. It was an exciting, exhausting learning experience.

Lovely piece as usual, simple, can you do simple? That’s the charm and interest of your work Patrick!
I have also come out of a zombie type state after being in Paris for the weekend. Offfff! I understand!

Wow. Looking at this piece I can’t quite find an interpretation for it but it’s quite the roller coaster ride for the eyes following the curves and turns of every cut that rest upon the textural delight of the paper. Your work is truly captivating and I’m honored to have to take a look at my work as well. So thank you.

bc- Of course they get deleted “accidentally”. That’s what happens when I stab randomly at buttons labeled in Kanji. And if the pic that happens to get deleted just happens to be of me all red-faced and doing something mind-numbingly silly, so be it.

AMAZING! You really should consider the workshop idea, Patrick. Or at least start by documenting the creation of one of your pieces from start to finish. Some photos and text would be very insightful.
