cut and torn paper / wood about 8 1/4″ x 5 3/4″
There’s nothing quite so rejuvenating as sharing a joke, laugh or punchline with our friends. It really is the best therapy I know. Mix in a decent, full-size cup of coffee and I’m set to jump back into the grind (pun not intended…but I did smirk when I noticed it). Of course, not all of us can carry our support group around with us wherever we go. Nor would we want to. I’m betting that this bunch can get pretty rowdy. They just have that look about them.
Incidentally, my one, big, current pet-peeve about Japan is teensy-tiny half-full cups of coffee. When I order coffee, I want a mug. A real mug. A mug that puts a person in jeopardy of a broken wrist if they lift it wrong. Not an espresso cup that’s only filled half-way up. Especially if I’m paying ¥600 (about 6 bucks) for it. Back in the US, I almost never went to any of the big chain coffee shops. I was always lucky enough to find a local place with great coffee, and usually for about a buck. Here, I am reduced to Starbucks. Ah well, I shouldn’t complain. I’ve seen coffee run higher than $10 a cup here. Like during the great Blue Mountain scandals of the early 1990’s. Now that was good for a laugh!

$10 a cup! What! That is obscene!
Poor thing having to go into Starbucks, I am pleased I weened myself off coffee, I can kind of understand your pain, but mine is with taste, not price so much here in France.
So, back to the real topic, is that what you call it, a support group? I love his collection of creatures, at least they make him laugh, wonderful, wonderful as usual Patrick! (I’m also interested in how long they generally take you once you are sure of the idea).

Thanks everyone! And welcome Frank, Clara, and anyone else visiting for the first time.
As for how long a piece like this takes me…that’s a tough question. I usually work on a few things at once (usually bouncing back and forth between the computer and the art desk), or stopping for other things. Um… I know the fastest full-color piece I ever did was 4 hours (the cutting and gluing phase). This one was spread out over about 3 days, but not all were dedicated to this. And it got posted at 4 in the a.m. So, the most honest answer I can give is that it takes awhile, but maybe not as long as you think it does.

Oooh, I’m so glad you stopped by my blog so I could find your wonderful work! Thanks for the nice comment too.
I envy this guy his ability to carry his support group around with him. Sometimes I wish mine was a bit closer.
Great, great stuff you got here.

Man, I always love your work. This one is particularly awesome. All of the little monsters or creatures riding on the bigger one is a great concept and works well with your medium. The colors are great and and the style of your jagged trees is awesome.

Wow - the colors in this are just lovely. this is one of my favorites so far - just gorgeous! I know exactly what you mean about the coffee, too - we have the same thing here. My husband is hooked on the Nespresso, but sometimes I really miss a normal sized mug that I can fill with milk and sugar - mmm!
