Feeling Social

Giant Facebook button cut paper art by Patrick GannonSo, I finally caved. Oh, I’ve been on Facebook for ages now keeping tabs on my friends back in the US and around the world. But I’ve finally gone and made a fan page. It’s just one more way for folks to stay abreast of what I’m doing. Although if you judge from my recent blogging, that might not seem like alot (apologies all round!).

If you’re active on Facebook, or just a little curious, click the little “f” icon over there to the right and bask in the glory of the social internet.

Which brings me to my next thought! I’m re-jiggering my blog navigation a little! I hope to add a few more icons to that lonely blue “f” over the next week or three. And since all of the social website buttons around the web are so slick and shiny, I’ve decided to make my own. Out of paper. Yeah, I’m the only guy in the world with a facebook button on his desk. And since I’m such a nice guy, I thought I would offer those buttons to you. You can grab the different sizes posted below.

Please don’t link directly to these buttons. To save them for your own use, right click on the item, then choose Save Picture/Image As… or just drag to your desktop if you’re using a mac.

And just so you don’t think I’m a total slacker McFly, here’s a WIP of a little something I’m doing for a friend. Enjoy!

FACEBOOK!!! Yes, a serious time drain…although it’s nice to know the artist is still at work. What kind of super hero might this be…Gorilla Facebook FlameTop Man…I love the stance in the sketch in the lower right hand corner. Glad you’re back.

Hey, good to hear from you again! Yup, that’s the stance I’m using for the final. I had another goofy one I liked too (not in the pic), but this just seemed right.

The saddest part is, I’ve got a bunch of new work done. I just can’t show it to all y’all yet. But at least you get to look at a nifty FaceBook button, right? Right?

Just be happy I haven’t caved in to Twitter.

Twixt Twitter and Facebook, certainly facebook is the lesser of two evils. My education RSS feeds keep trying to tell my that Twitter is academically relevant and a great classroom tool…not buying it yet. I have to admit that I Facebook from time to time, but everytime I post new material my former and current students flock to my page and slobber it with all sorts of inappropriate commentary (picture the phone booth scene from Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’)…that’s the sensation I get.
    You are right…the facebook button is a JEWEL, a triumph!!! Huzzah…so creative…
I was checking out Kenji Hirata : http://www.kenjihirata.com/ the other day; in your absence I’ve strayed. Interesting work.
I’ve just moved onto a pretty pretentious progressive boarding school campus and they seem to be blocking Facebook…I’m working on the tech guy to let me in…when that happens, I’m sure to become a FAN! Until then, know that I am

Lava-Roid is the portly here in the sketches. He’s now posted and burning up the front page. Being on the other side of the world, Facebook (and previously Myspace, but less so as of late) have been invaluable in keeping up conversations with the folks back home. And I welcome inappropriate commentary, just so long as it doesn’t wound my fragile ego. Hirata’s work is beautiful. The flatness of his recent work is intriguing, especially the way he uses color to indicate motion, sound and vibration. I’ll try not to get too jealous.
