Let's not go slapping around any shrubbery, shall we? It's hot out there. Not it's-okay-as-long-as-we-stay-in-the-shade-with-a-lemonade hot. Not gently-waving-a-hand-folded-paper-fan-in-my-face hot. No, this is real heat. The kind of heat that makes people wilt. That makes your ice cream melt in your hand before you get three licks in. That makes you sweat even while you're standing in a cold shower. It's a small step below surface-of-Mercury (sunny side) hot, and it's downright uncomfortable. And then there are the ghosts.
Oh, you didn't know about the ghosts? You thought that was an Autumnal, Halloweeny occurrence?
Not here in Japan, where Obon creeps in during the dog days of August, and the hungry ghouls like their nights thick and humid.
In an effort to appease these restless spirits, Arts Rush Gallery in Daikanyama presents 妖し展 [Ayashi•2015 Exhibition], a celebration of all things weird, spooky, and fascinating. 9 artists have dared the darkest night and risked their very souls, creating macabre, yet beautiful, works of wood, paint, sculpture, jewelry, and more.
